2009 Arctic Cat Prowler XTX 700 H1 EFI Review

8-25-2009

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

Already a veritable phenomenon in the U.S., the Side X Side ATV trend has now reached the Canadian market thanks to an ever-increasing supply of models. Taking advantage of its know-how in the ATV class, Arctic Cat alone offers six Side X Side models ranging from 550 to 1000 cc.

Arctic Cat once again satisfies the needs of its customers with the new Prowler 700 XTX 700 H1.

Since 2006, the various Prowler models combine great style, comfort and efficiency for both work and play, and we’ve put the Prowler XTX 700 H1 through its paces in the Papineau-Labelle national park.

Efficient drive train
The 700 H1 EFI engine, a single-cylinder, four-valve, liquid-cooled, SOHC mill, provides ample power and torque for steep and muddy trails as well as the abrupt slopes of sand quarries. Already known for its hemispherical-shaped cylinder head, the engine designed and built by Arctic Cat (the old engine came from Suzuki’s KingQuad 700) now uses a new air box and a revised, quieter exhaust system.

The sophisticated drive train includes a CVT transmission as well as buttons to control the two-speed secondary transmission, to lock the front differential and to select the two- or four-wheel-drive mode. Tackling obstacles is child’s play with these features.

What’s more, the Prowler XTX 700 comes with a locking rear differential that allows the rear inside wheel to skid a little, which makes it easier to handle tight corners on a grippy surface like asphalt, on top of reducing damage to the lawn around the farm or cottage while offering the desired grip for intense corner exits and the most daunting of obstacles.

Luxury and versatility

The Prowler XTX 700 H1, Arctic Cat’s swankiest model, lavishly welcomes its occupants with everything needed for comfortable, long-distance treks. It boasts well-shaped seats, safety belts, a height-adjustable steering wheel, a flat floor leaving a lot of leg room, a handy 12-V outlet, a centre console with built-in cup holders and a large, 31-litre fuel tank. The open-air cockpit, surrounded by a safety cage, features a glove compartment, dashboard storage spaces and a toolbox located under the passenger seat.
