MotoGP: Casey Stoner flies in Germany

7-11-2008

by Luc Fradette

Its looking like Ducati's Casey Stoner will continued to dominate another weekend of competition of MotoGP as he lead both free practice sessions at the Sachsenring circuit for the German Grand Prix.

The Ducati rider once again dominated but Gresini's Honda Alex de Angelis finished both practices in second place, which should put a smile back on his boss's face. De Angelis had been under a lot of criticism for his recent poor racing performances recently.

However, Stoner came close to seriously injuring himself in a high-speed crash.

While attempting to lower is fastest time of 1:21.582, which represents a new lap record, the Ducati rider lost the front end of his bike at nearly 120 mph at the Waterfall corner.

Stoner walked away from the crash with just friction burns to his elbows thanks to the asphalt run-off.

James Toseland fell heavily in the early minutes of the first session but fortunately walked away unscathed. It's unclear what caused the crash, but with overcast skies and rain in the air, grip levels were low on-track.

In the afternoon session, Colin Edwards managed to finish 3rd while Fiat Yamaha's duo Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo completed their day's work in 4th and 5th.
