Top 10: Most Versatile 2015 Bikes

10-18-2015

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

Shopping for a new motorcycle can be daunting, particularly if you expect a lot from it. First, you must identify and rank your various needs because no single bike can meet all of them at once.

I agree with some of my colleagues who say that a motorcyclist has to own at least five different bikes in order to be truly and completely satisfied: a touring motorcycle (like a Gold Wing or R1200RT), a cruiser, a naked sport bike (such as the Triumph Street Triple R), an enduro bike or dirt bike (why not the KTM 350 XCF?), and a superbike for track days.

Of course, due to a lack of money and/or storage space, most riders today can't afford to buy more than one bike, which means they'll use it for daily commutes, weekend getaways, and everything in between. Performance, agility, rider-friendliness, comfort, and safety must all be part of the package. But is that even possible?

Here are the top 10 most versatile bikes on the Canadian market in 2015, one of which is likely to offer everything you're looking for:

No. 10
2015 Yamaha FJ-09

This is the Japanese manufacturer's take on the multipurpose bike segment, and it will delight riders who love to go almost anywhere. More comfortable than a true sport bike, more touring-oriented than a naked bike, and sportier than an adventure bike, the 2015 Yamaha FJ-09 is basically the two-wheel equivalent of a BMW X6.

The new FJ-09 shares a number of components with the MT-09, yet its upright riding position, more intuitive handling, and more rider-friendly ways overall help deliver the sort of versatility enthusiasts look for. It's the perfect blend of everyday utility and weekend fun, with a healthy dose of dynamic feel thrown in for good measure.
