The 2008 Montreal Motorcycle Show

2-23-2008

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

The exotics are all there, too
As usual, the Austrian manufacturer KTM is very audacious when the time to develop a new product comes along. The New RC8 is motivated by an all-new 1149cc twin-cylinder that complies with the world Superbike Championship. The cycle part offers a multitude of possible ergonomic settings, a characteristic that's exclusive in its category. This new model isn't on display at the show, however, but should soon find its way in KTM showrooms. For 2008, the Italian brand Ducati is offering a more-affordable version of its thoroughbred. The little sister of the 1098R, the 848, should allow a greater number of motorcyclists the chance to finally fulfill their dreams.

BMW HP2 Sport

At the BMW stand, there are several new models. In addition to the famous HP2 Sport and Megamoto bikes, the legendary German brand is launching two Adventure models this year. The F650 GS and F800 GS are conceived for the no-borders adventure amateur. The two bikes are equipped with the same 798cc engine; however the F650 is a little less powerful but is easier to pilot.

Buell presents its new 1125R, a top-end bike that pushes performance limits a little further, thanks to an exclusive V-twin engine that generates 146 horsepower at only 9,800 RPM. Unlike the American brand's habits, the new engine has been entirely developed by Rotax, an Austrian company controlled by recreational vehicle giant BRP.

Other new Japanese models
At Suzuki, visitors will be able to check out the new B-King 1300, a steed that will leave no one indifferent. The new B-King breaks apart from the styling standard, thanks to an ultra-modern shape. The Japanese brand's audacity must be applauded. The Bandit 650S' engine can now be found within the fairing of the new GSX 650F. This new versatile bike is more or less a sportier Bandit 650S, but more modern and fully-dressed.

Yamaha is launching three new models dedicated to a young and adventurous clientele. The retirement of the XT350 a few years ago left all the work to the little XT225. The new WR250X and WR250R models, as well as the 2008 XT250, are exactly what versatile, road and trail bike amateurs are impatiently waiting for. By the way, the WR250X model is the first Yamaha supermoto-type bike that landed on Canadian soil. The Star family proposes a new cruiser: the 2008 XV1900 Custom S was conceived for cruiser-style motorcycle fans looking for an attractive and fast steed.

In 2008, motorcycle enthusiasts benefit from a show full of new products. It's an event to be seen, from February 22nd to the 24th, at the Palais des Congrès in Montreal.
