BMW ups the ante for 2009 with three K1300s, the GT, R and S Preview

K1300R

K1300R ($16,350)
Eleven kilos lighter than its big brother, the R will delight riders with its super aggressive stance and 173 ponies. The "standard" look is increasingly popular these days, and the R will certainly capture a healthy chunk of the market with its straighter riding position, ideal for city driving, and wind-deflector ensuring a modicum of protection at higher speeds. Its various accessories will make it one of the most enjoyable touring bikes on the road.

K1300GT

K1300GT ($21,600)
This sport touring version's engine has somewhat curbed its enthusiasm, "limiting" itself to 160 hp at 9,000 rpm and 99 ft-lb of torque at 8,000 rpm. With its 225-kg dry weight, its power/weight ratio remains attractive, not to say generous, for those who value both performance and comfort. If you like the 1200 version, you'll love the 1300, more powerful and torquy and tuned for serious solo and dual-rider touring.
