Well-rounded package
In addition to the same liquid-cooled, 420 cc, 4-stroke, single-cylinder engine with electronic fuel injection that's helped this ATV stay at the forefront of the segment over the years, the Japanese manufacturer came up with a new chassis wrapped in a much sleeker body.

Moreover, the midsize 2014 Honda TRX420 has available Electric Power Steering (EPS) that not only reduces steering efforts in corners but also acts as a steering damper to greatly reduce undesirable kickback through the handlebars over rough or rocky terrain.

Other highlights of the 2014 Honda TRX420 include:

• A new seat;
• Improved ergonomics;
• Revised engine mounts that significantly limit vibrations;
• An upgraded exhaust system;
• A fully independent suspension with increased travel for superior comfort.

Dependable power
The 2014 Honda TRX420 is powered by the aforementioned 420 cc, 4-stroke engine with EFI that's been a staple since 2008. Yup, for six years, this unit has proven reliable both around the farm and out on the trail. Rugged and capable, with lots of torque on tap, it can tow up to 385 kg.

Similar to more upscale ATVs, the 2014 Honda TRX420 offers a 5-speed, dual-clutch autobox (a standard manual transmission is once again available, helping lower the price of the TRX) and can shift from 2WD to 4WD.

A high-capacity lubrication system with a more effective, twin-plate oil pump is included on the 2014 Honda TRX420. Braking is handled by dual hydraulic front and single rear disc brakes, while the large, 13.3-litre plastic fuel tank means you can cover a whole lot of ground between fill-ups.

Standard features include, among others, a 371W alternator, a maintenance-free, 12 amp/h battery, combination LED stoplight and taillight, not to mention a 1-year limited warranty.

The 2014 Honda TRX420 is expected to go on sale this fall with a choice of four body colours: Red, Green, Orange (automatic transmission), and the new Honda Phantom Camo.
