Kymco's reputation of quality, reliability and styling now extends well beyond Asian markets. Consumers in Canada can appreciate its safe and attractive ATVs such as the 2012 Mongoose 300 at a very affordable price.

Sticking to the same exact recipe as last year's model, although $100 cheaper at $4,495, this aggressively styled four-wheeler draws attention with its burnt orange plastic fairings (black is also available) and silver powder-coated frame and front bumper. It also boasts a wide, athletic stance with DID aluminum wheels shod in 21/7-10'' front and 20/11-9'' rear sport tires.

Ready to play
Powering the 205-kg Mongoose 300 is a 270cc 4-stroke single-cylinder. This liquid-cooled engine uses a single overhead camshaft and a Keihin carburetor to produce 18.6 hp at 7,000 rpm and 15.9 lb-ft of torque at 5,500 rpm. It's mated to an automatic CVT that ensures easy handling as well as a chain final drive.

As a sport-oriented ATV, the 2012 Kymco Mongoose 300 offers no 4WD capability. However, it features a rugged independent front suspension with dual A-arms and a link-type rear suspension with steel swingarm, not to mention adjustable shocks at both ends.

Completing the chassis are dual cross-drilled rotors up front and a single cross-drilled rotor in the back that help prevent brake fade.

What else is there to say? Well, expect to find a single headlight with high and low beams, a protected radiator, enclosed foot guards, plus headlight and engine temperature indicator lights below the analog speedometer.

Bottom line
The 2012 Kymco Mongoose 300 promises performance, stability and reliability for experienced riders and beginners alike. You can race this middleweight on your favourite MX track or enjoy a relaxed Sunday ride on the trail, especially with the shiftless CVT.
