2011 Triumph Speedmaster Review

6-14-2011

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

The frame has been extensively reworked, and the saddle is now perched up 720 mm from the ground, inviting tall and not-so-tall riders alike to enjoy a hassle-free ride. The riding position, feet forward, comfortable seat and chest fairly protected from the wind, contribute to a relaxing experience on the road where the kilometres beckon. On the flip side, the passenger will find him or herself clutching at the rider, as that seat is tilted towards the back and there aren’t any handgrips.

This is one gratifying Triumph: uniquely styled and surprisingly powerful and user-friendly. (Photo: Matthieu Lambert/Moto123.com)

The choice of an 18-inch wheel in front brings a natural feel to the ride, especially in tight corners and on damaged roads, where the Speedmaster holds its course and allows the rider to play safely. The rear twin shocks are little stingy on the travel, but prove well calibrated. The brakes are powerful enough, progressive and reassuring despite slightly spongy feel controls.

This is one gratifying Triumph: uniquely styled and surprisingly powerful and user-friendly. A charming, simple and singular bike on which you can rack up the miles without taking out a second mortgage.
