2011 Kymco Maxxer 450i Review

3-24-2011

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

While the 375 lacked some juice, the Maxxer 450i offers plenty to make the most of the excellent IRS chassis. I can only find fault in the power delivery, which is a bit too linear and steady for my liking. It must be said, however, that the Maxxer 450i is based on the 375, a direct product of the MXU 375 utility ATV, which explains its smooth nature.

The engine is mated to a CVT controlled by a car-like shifter located on the left mud guard. It includes reverse, neutral and low/high gearing. A switch near the right handlebar allows the rider to shift from 2WD to 4WD on the fly at any speed. Sharp and efficient at low revs, this CVT adds a solid feel to the machine and provides genuine fun.

Active ergonomics
Likewise, the Maxxer 450i offers surprising comfort and a natural riding position for a sport-oriented ATV. Yet the rider can easily move his or her body around in winding trails to execute perfect weight transfers that result in delightful power slides out of corners.

Wrap-up
Short on cash and/or physical abilities, some customers have become frustrated by the growing number of 800- and 1,000-cc models on the market – all exuberant and hard to tame.
