2011 Kawasaki Jet Ski Ultra 300X Preview

6-28-2011

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

Kawasaki knows who you are, you power-lovin’ water babies. You want nothing less than the fastest machine on the waves. Well, Team Green has got exactly what you’re looking for, i.e., the new überpotent Jet Ski Ultra 300X, the most blistering PWC ever built. A 300-hp, supercharged engine has been combined with one of the most efficient hulls in the industry to offer breathtaking accelerations and lightning-quick turns.

Yup, the restyled Ultra 300X will be the envy of the lake this summer. Kawasaki’s engineers paid particular attention to the machine’s aerodynamics; the deep-V hull is perfect for high bank angles and enables turning performance worthy of a motorcycle. What’s more, the lessons learned in the heat of competition allowed Kawasaki to develop one of the most responsive hulls ever without sacrificing high-speed stability.

More grunt than ever
The new master of the waves has seen the output of its 1,498-cc, four-cylinder mill skyrocket from 260 to 300 hp, guaranteeing spirited acceleration and throttle response in all conditions. The secret? A new TVS Roots-type supercharger with four lobes (formerly 2 lobes) and a larger jet pump (+5 mm for a grand total of 160 mm) that increases the efficiency of the whole package.

The old compressor delivered air in waves but the new TVS provides a continuous flow for a more stable response under acceleration. So equipped, the Ultra 300X can reportedly reach speeds of over 100 km/h on rough water, even against the wind.
