2011 Yamaha Stryker Review

10-13-2010

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

The Stryker holds its own in corners despite an enormous 210-mm rear tire that resists trajectory changes – like on corner entry, for instance. Despite this flaw, the Stryker’s dynamics are sure to please – for a chopper, that is! It’s obvious the engineers put particular care in optimizing the bike’s manoeuvrability and stability, which are superior to that of some better-known choppers. Well done Yamaha!

The beast smooths out pockmarked roads despite limited rear travel, courtesy of its low-slung style. However, we’ll have to wait until summer 2011 to take this baby out on Quebec’s rougher roads. The powerful, easily-modulated brakes increase rider confidence, both on dry and wet pavement, while the Stryker reacts like you two are old friends.

The new Stryker is set to improve an already well-endowed range of cruisers, taking up the mantle of its big chopper brother with flair. It offers all the style and performance of a chopper without demanding a sacrifice on the altar of comfort, as is the genre’s wont. A user-friendly and accessible bike thanks to a low saddle and centre of gravity, the Stryker is powerful and as much fun to look at as to ride. And with its very competitive price tag, it’ll probably be flying right out of the dealership.
