2011 Victory Hammer S Review

8-19-2011

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

Smart chassis and ergonomics
The riding position is basically beyond reproach, the footpegs are mounted close to the front and the rider's seat is comfortable. More importantly perhaps, the excellent suspension doesn't make you pay too much for the stylishly-slammed profile of the Hammer S, relieving your lower back while still offering commendable handling. In addition, the generous ground clearance (by cruiser standards, of course) allows the rider to play a little in corners.

The front fork also deserves praise, soaking up the worst road imperfections while ensuring great roll control under hard braking. The only drawback lies in low-speed cornering manoeuvres, where the Hammer S doesn't always follow the rider's orders. The fat rear tire resists changing directions, but man, what a look!

As with any self-respecting muscle cruiser, the transmission and clutch are both quite a load, but they positively contribute to the enhanced rigidity and stoutness of the machine. This is a man's bike through and through.

Bottom line
Far from superficial and timid, the brash and brawny 2011 Victory Hammer S can still produce happy times on your daily rides. With striking performance, looks and character, this model targets hardened motorcycle enthusiasts looking for not only a formidable getaway bike but also the complete lifestyle that goes with it. Much like the legendary Cobra two-seater, the Hammer S leaves absolutely no doubt in your mind thanks to unique, racy styling.

Pros
Sporty character and suspension
Powerful, responsive engine
Racy styling and flamboyant looks

Cons
