2011 Polaris Ranger XP 800 Review

Superior versatility
On the trails, the Ranger XP 800 proves surprisingly sporty yet compliant thanks to a suspension system that effectively absorbs the biggest bumps without overwhelming the occupants. In corners, the steering responds quickly and offers a short turning radius, which is vital for a crossover type of utility vehicle such as this Polaris.

Said steering requires very little effort from the driver at low speeds while firming up to provide stability and secure handling at higher speeds. One problem, though: The XP 800 tends to understeer quite a bit, especially when attacking bumpy turns. I attributed this weakness to a rear-biased weight distribution.

Anyhow, don't expect this rig to keep pace with true sport side-by-sides in sand pits or on enduro tracks. However, a long list of features, fun-to-drive character, great capabilities, and many other commendable attributes make the $12,999 2011 Polaris Ranger XP 800 an exceptionally versatile competitor in its class. Basically, you get two machines for the price of one.
