2010 Yamaha Waverunner Preview

5-7-2010

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

Sportier
What the company calls a "progressive, stepper draft V-Hull" is a more aggressive hull design that increases stream velocity, thrust and maneuverability at low speeds while enhancing stability, handling and wave-splitting capability at high speeds. Integrated guards up front improve comfort by redirecting spray away from the rider and passengers.

And since such a voluminous hull increases drag at higher speeds, not to mention its negative effect on power, Yamaha engineers incorporated tiny streamlined fins under the hull in order to help the machine glide over the water, almost like a hydroplane.

Generously equipped
Despite their entry-level status, the new VX models come standard with an electronic information center that provides a quick read on speed, RPM, fuel level, warnings for low fuel, low oil pressure and overheating, hour meter and check-engine light. You’ll also find the industry’s only anti-theft alarm system.

The VX Sport features a spacious, contoured seat, an extra-large boarding platform, a glove box, dual mirrors, a tow hook for water skiers and 60 litres of waterproof storage.

The VX Deluxe adds reverse and a Low-RPM Mode activated by a remote transmitter, that reduces maximum speed by nearly 30 percent — great for beginners. The high-end VX Cruiser tops it all off with cruiser-style stadium seating so that rear occupants enjoy better forward visibility. There’s also a more user-friendly, retractable boarding step.

Bottom line
The all-new 2010 Yamaha VX lineup offers excellent bang for your buck. Water sports enthusiasts will benefit from these more effective, comfortable and stylish machines, while families will get a quieter and more socially-accepted alternative on the lake.
