2010 Piaggio MP3 500 Sport Review

9-7-2010

by Marc Cantin , moto123.com

Other well hidden secrets include the balance beam front suspension that effectively cuts bump severity in half if you steer one wheel away from the hole. The nice big brakes, two 240mm discs in front and a 280mm one at the back, along with the well dampened front suspension, make for safe and enjoyable riding.

This shot of one front suspension shows the progressively wound coil spring, the shock absorber, inside the coil and the (vertical) locking shaft on the left, with the hydraulic lock at the top. You can also see the solid alloy swingarm, a Vespa/Piaggio trademark. (Photo: Matthieu Lambert/Moto123.com)

The two front wheels lean into corners, just like motorcycle and unlike the CanAm Spyder with its two-wheel car suspension in front. The Spyder does not lean into corners, in fact it leans away from corners just like a car, forcing the humans to lean off the seat into the corner to compensate and stay aboard.

Yes the front wheels lean in with the scooter as an articulated seesaw arm keeps both wheel equally loaded on the ground. (Photo: Piaggio)
