2010 Arlen Ness Victory Vision Review

5-4-2010

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

Almost feisty on some Victory models, the engine turns quiet and extremely smooth on the Vision, thanks to the customized exhaust system and more effective shock-absorbing engine mounts. The engine remains flexible at all times, pulling easily on corner exit from as low as 1,500rpm in intermediate gears, and lively enough for passing maneuvers from 2,000rpm in sixth gear.

At high speeds, the machine seems little affected by crosswinds, grooves in the roadway and even the kind of wind buffeting behind semi-trailer trucks that unsettles other bikes. However, any rider above 1.85m tall will find the wind turbulence around the helmet unbearable at over 100 km/h. I’m hoping that a different windshield would fix this, as it does on some H-D models.

The brakes prove decent but not on the same level as European touring bikes… unless you’re an expert at combining front and rear braking pressure to maximize grip and retardation, or strong enough to squeeze both extremities enough to activate the ABS. Agility in corners will surprise you as the Victory Vision easily leans into the apex and stays on line, even when going over bumps and potholes. Like any heavy bike, though, changes in the trajectory when leaned over require a good deal of arm strength. For effortless cornering, you’d better plan ahead for the best line and stick to it.

The suspension boasts generous travel for this type of motorcycle, contributing to limousine-like comfort and ride quality except when encountering the biggest bumps and potholes.

Why go with the Arlen Ness Vision?
The limited-edition Arlen Ness Victory Vision will appeal to those after something different, unique, futuristic or just plain kitsch. Beneath the outrageous styling rests a high-quality cruiser providing superior comfort and stability, not to mention the performance of one of the industry’s best V-twins.
