Completely revised chassis
The Sportsman's chassis has been completely redesigned and is super sturdy. The old MacPherson suspension has been replaced by a new dual A-arm suspension where the arms dive further into the wheels, ensuring better driveability and stability. Ground clearance is now 305 mm and suspension travel has been bumped up to 229 mm in front and 260 mm in back. The suspension is very well calibrated and provides a judicious compromise between comfort and cornering reaction. Another original feature of this model is the unusual position of the fuel tank. It's located way down between the steering system and the engine: the weight is centered better, which in turn lowers the centre of gravity.

The new Sportsman XP 550 will hit Polaris dealerships shortly.

EPS system
One of the most important new features this year is without a doubt the addition of a new assisted steering system. The EPS system (Electronic Power Steering) was first seen on Yamaha's Grizzly. It's a variable system that provides better feedback at high speed and more efficiency in tight spots. Our test model wasn't so equipped, which allowed us to see just how good the work of the Polaris engineers was. The precision and user-friendliness of the XP 550 steering system is such that compared to the old model, the new one seems much lighter. With or without ESP, thanks to the new steering system, the completely revised suspension and the slew of original features, the Sportsman XP 550 will unquestionably be the ideal companion at work and on those long weekend treks.
