2009 Polaris IQ 800 Review (video)

4-21-2008

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

Ultra-fast
The Polaris IQ 800 is not only ultra-fast under acceleration but also quite user-friendly and fun to ride. Mastering this snowmobile only takes a short while, which is pretty rare for such a big 2-stroke machine. Simply point the skis in the desired direction and the IQ will exit the corner as quickly as it surged into it. However, all this handling comes at a price: since the shocks and springs are tuned for sporty, aggressive riding, comfort in normal riding conditions is affected.

The shocks and springs are tuned for sporty, aggressive riding.

As far as the chassis is concerned, my only complaint is that the steering column is too upright, making the handlebar angle not really ergonomic and convenient for sharp cornering maneuvers. On the plus side, the riding position is quite comfortable. The rider's weight is centralized, which not only improves comfort and control but also reduces rider fatigue.

All in all, Polaris engineers did an outstanding job. They have designed an innovative chassis that excels in every respect. The new 2009 IQ 800 is a clear illustration of the chassis' excellent capability. It's powerful, user-friendly and, most importantly, fun to ride. Simply put, this sled is by far one of the fastest and most effective ever designed.
