2009 Piaggio MP3 250 First Impressions

5-29-2009

by Luc Brière , Auto123.com

Elsewhere, well, there's a fuel-injected, 244-cc, four-stroke, single-cylinder engine (the same as the Vespa GTS 250). It produces 22.5 horsepower (0.5hp more than on the Vespa) at 8,250 rpm and 15.5 lb-ft of torque at 6,750 rpm (14.9 lb-ft for the Vespa). So, yes, the Piaggio MP3 250 is slightly more powerful, but it's also much heavier: 203 kilos versus 148 for the Vespa. Don't expect quicker acceleration from the Piaggio! You will, however, get enough juice and liveliness out of the engine for quickish commutes from home to work. Top speed is rated at 124 km/h by the maker.

The more custom-like riding position, make the riding experience more relaxed than with a traditional scooter.

What else? This 250 really enjoys on the open road! The more custom-like riding position, the lower seat height and closer handlebars make the riding experience more relaxed than with a traditional scooter. Meanwhile, the solid steering, the dual-wheel front suspension soaking up big road imperfections and the firmer rear suspension make this machine more stable, with a definite motorcycle-like riding behavior. Plus, three large 240-mm discs deliver exceptional braking power.

Finally, with a 12.1 litre fuel tank and 4.2 L/100 km rating, the Piaggio MP3 250 offers a range of nearly 300 kilometres, which also goes to show its wonderful touring capabilities.
