The wet, multi-disc clutch makes shifting a breeze whether ripping up through the gears or downshifting in a hurry, with the buttery smooth shifter helping you find neutral easily and avoid false neutrals when shifting normally. That being said, the sounds from the mini muffler aren`t nearly as aggressive as the bike`s styling would suggest.

It may seem petty to some, but colour choice is important. Available in additional Passion Red and Metallic Diablo Black variants in other markets, Canadians will only have the choice of Lime Green or Candy Plasma Blue – neither of which turn my crank. It may be a personal preference, but that is also what finding the right bike often comes down to for customers – getting the bike that suits them best.

The 2009 Ninja 650R may be a versatile bike, but it really shines when tackling tight twisties or navigating the urban jungle. It offers bold styling with riding characteristics that are both unintimidating for beginners and entertaining for veterans. What makes it even easier to live with is the $8,349 pricetag. Offering the styling and performance of a supersport with the upright riding position of a sport touring bike, the 650R will surely continue to be a popular choice for those who want the best of both worlds.
