2009 Hyosung MS3 250 Preview

4-28-2009

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

Designed to take on GT scooters, the generously-sized Hyosung MS3 250 is first and foremost an extremely-affordable product. For less than $5,000, this machine will reward those looking for comfort and amenities rather than performance and accelerations.

Cute and ergonomic
The classic, rounded lines of the 2009 Hyosung MS3 250 are fairly attractive and reminiscent of GT motorcycles, especially with the large windshield and the wide lower fairing providing excellent leg protection. The modern front section is pleasant to look at with big, almond-shaped headlights, a chrome-plated grille and perfectly-integrated LED turn signals. The two-tier seat with backrests (the rider's is fixed while the passenger's is adjustable) allows the passenger to not only have a clear view of the road over the rider's head but also to enjoy the fun, comfortable side of GT scooters courtesy of soft padding and low seat height.

Comprehensively equipped
The MS3 250 is a feature-laden scooter boasting a huge, underseat compartment (capable of accommodating a pair of full-face helmets), a 12-volt power outlet and a generously-sized, lockable glove box large enough to fit a laptop and handbag.

The comprehensive, car-like instrument panel includes a tachometer, fuel and engine temperature gauges as well as the usual indicators and trip meters. A small trap at the bottom of the trunk allows access to the engine and exhaust system without having to remove the entire fairing -- another clever trick that proves helpful for maintenance. Furthermore, the MS3 250 offers a side stand for quick stops and a center stand for extended stops.

A true GT
Designed to rival GT scooters in terms of comfort and safety, the Hyosung MS3 250 rides on a 13-inch front wheel and 14-inch rear wheel, with three discs taking care of braking. The modern, 4-valve, DOHC, single-cylinder engine gets electronic fuel injection. However, the 9-liter fuel tank, inherited from the MS3 125, is a bit too small for a 180-kilo machine that's twice as powerful.

In the end, the 2009 MS3 250 allows Hyosung to offer a quality alternative to consumers after a well-equipped, attractively-priced GT scooter. After all, while fit and finish look decent at best, this two-wheeler admittedly offers plenty of comfort and value at a price that defies most direct competitors.
