2009 Arctic Cat snowmobiles Preview (video)

M lineup
M-designated models lose weight and get a revised rear suspension for 2009. Torsion springs have been eliminated and the overall unsprung weight has been reduced by 1.6 kilo. A new electronic push-button reverse mechanism (800 and 1000 models) makes the operation more user-friendly and further reduces weight by 3.4 kilos.

These machines also receive a new hybrid track which, according to Arctic Cat engineers, is not only exceptional in deep snow but also in groomed trails. This unique track also reduces rotational weight, which is vital for mountain-oriented snowmobiles.

Thanks to all these new components, the M is about 10-kilo lighter than its predecessor. A new Sno Pro version with lighter Fox Float front air shocks and a Fox Float rear shock offering 19 inches of travel is available for 2009.

Utility Twin Spar
As for the Bearcat, it will benefit from the famous Twin Spar chassis -- and likely become the most comfortable and effective utility snowmobile ever designed by Arctic Cat. The base model boasts standard features like a FasTrack suspension, a 144-inch track, an adjustable ski stance and a seventh-generation AWS front suspension. The 2009 Bearcat also gets new 8-inch skis for improved floatation. Three models will be offered: the Bearcat 570, Bearcat 570 XT (with 156-inch track) and Bearcat Z1 XT (with 4-stroke engine).

Ultra-high performance
Meanwhile, F-designated models come back with new graphics and a number of minor improvements. A choice of five 2-stroke, twin-cylinder engines will be available, ranging from 499 to 999 cc. One of them is the good old 570-cc, fan-cooled powerplant, which now benefits from a few notable features like standard electric start and mechanical reverse. All liquid-cooled engines rely on battery-less electronic fuel injection. This unique system adjusts to the temperature and altitude while reducing noxious emissions. Finally, Arctic Cat's ACT Diamond Direct Drive planetary gear case replaces the traditional drive system with a sequence of CNC-machined gears. It allows reduced track speed at engagement without sacrificing top speed.

With a host of high-caliber technical features, an attractive design that will appeal to the brand's hardcore fans and an ultra-modern chassis, the new 2009 Arctic Cat snowmobiles clearly have the potential to wind up on top of the podium.
