2009 Harley-Davidson 883 Iron First Impressions

3-30-2009

by Marc Cantin , moto123.com

Other than the lower back torture test, the Iron ergos left me plenty of room to extend arms and legs, and find a (relatively) comfortable position when parading past the Main Streetminions.

Josée belongs on that bike!

Since women riders are a major growth area for manufacturers and as the Iron takes dead aim at that market, we got Canadian road racer Josée Bouchard to take the bike out for a spin and comment on her first non sportbike ride. She was pleasantly surprised by a machine where she does not have to carry her weight on her wrists. "The Iron feels really light and handles almost instinctively in town. It is certainly more approachable and far less work to ride than a sportbike. Easy to climb onto, and with a comfortable seat, I enjoyed my baptism by cruiser and feel that novice riders will find the Iron stylish as well as eminently approachable".

And at less than ten grand, and with slower depreciation than other brands, the money side also makes sense.

All black looks
Compact, light weight
Ease of use

Limited rear suspension travel
Need to brake at both ends for more urgent stops
Boy, is that tank small!

How much for that 1200 conversion kit?
