2008 Honda VTX 1300T Preview

by moto123.com

A new version of the VTX 1300 joins Honda's well-stocked cruiser lineup. This Tourer model comes standard with a wide array of travel accessories. The 2008 VTX 1300T targets those after a well-equipped, user-friendly, stylish motorcycle to ride across the country and beyond.

Exemplary engine
Honda's new machine is motivated by a long-stroke, 52-degree V-twin engine with two spark plugs per cylinder that are controlled by a sophisticated computer. The result is improved fuel economy and lower emissions. This mill features a unique dry-sump oil system that places the oil tank inside the gearbox case. The more compact design allows for a lower engine height and increased power at higher revs.

We recently had the opportunity to put the VTX 1300T to the test. Although it still relies on carburetors, the 1,312-cc V-twin no doubt makes this motorcycle one of the most pleasant to ride in its class. On top of a flawless styling and finish, the bike's dynamic qualities make it easy to fall in love. Flexible at low revs and powerful at medium revs, the engine delivers reliable, readily accessible power in all riding conditions. We were amazed by its throaty yet subtle sound; in fact, you'll have a hard time finding a smoother, similarly-sized twin-cylinder engine.

Comfort and room
The 5-speed transmission was specifically designed for a cruiser-type motorcycle. Gear changes are always performed convincingly, giving the rider a solid feel at the helm. Don't worry, the VTX 1300T proves to be very user-friendly. The shaft final-drive system provides smooth, precise operation; it fulfills its mission like a true soldier.

Ergonomics are one of the strengths of this tourer. The controls are well laid out and easy to manipulate. There's also plenty of room, giving you one of the best riding positions in the category. The nicely-padded, perfectly-sculpted seat offers above-average comfort. As for the suspension, the 41-mm inverted front fork works with dual rear shocks featuring an advanced internal valve system for a comfortable ride.
