2008 Can-Am DS 90 and DS 70 Preview

BRP offers young riders two new mini ATVs for 2008. The all-new Can-Am DS 90 and DS 70 were designed to deliver all the safety features parents demand for their children, without compromising the fun factor.

Youth ergonomics
The riding position and controls were purposefully designed to fit the smaller riders these ATVs are intended for. The DS 90 offers full floorboards that ensure secure footing and protection against debris, bumps and rocks. The narrow padded seat allows unparalleled freedom of movement and provides a good level of comfort to the young rider.

According to BRP engineers, the DS 90 delivers improved handling and comfort over bumps thanks to a sophisticated and efficient long-travel suspension. It's also equipped with a pair of headlights that are similar in style and visibility to those of a full-size Can-Am ATV, which is pretty rare in this category. Moreover, in order to bring along what kids need or take home what they find on the way, the vehicle features a front storage compartment -- also unheard of in this category.

DS 90
Young riders will benefit from a very user-friendly continuously variable transmission that automatically finds the right gear at the right time. Therefore, riders can focus on the terrain rather than on the clutch. This gearbox includes Reverse and Neutral positions. In addition, it proves to be very reliable and low-maintenance. Safer and cleaner than a chain-driven transmission, the DS 90's shaft-driven unit was designed to provide more fun and less worries.

The Can-Am DS 90 is motivated by a quiet and clean 90cc four-stroke engine. This mill uses a forced-air cooling system, which is indispensable for low-speed rides during the learning period. It is fed by a Keihin carburetor with throttle limiter. Indeed, parents will be able to limit the throttle opening thanks to a special control located near the right handlebar.

Both front and rear brakes are comprised of drums. The DS 90 comes standard with all-terrain studded tires (19 inches front, 18 inches rear) wrapped around 8-inch steel sport wheels.

DS 70

The DS 70 offers the same comfort and safety features as its big brother. The only difference is that the engine displacement is 70cc instead of 90cc -- great for beginners. The DS 70 is powered by a force air-cooled single-cylinder engine with a two-valve cylinder head. It also uses the same Keihin carburetor, throttle limiter and electric starter.

Both models are very well equipped and offer several unique features in this category. They will no doubt please little riders and help them become big champions.
