2008 Arctic Cat 700 Diesel TRV Preview

by moto123.com

Arctic Cat is introducing an all-new ATV with diesel engine. In fact, the 2008 700 Diesel TRV becomes the first large-displacement diesel-powered ATV in the industry. With this new vehicle, the company is looking to reduce the impact of ATVs on the environment.

Less fuel, less pollution
Together with the Agricultural Utilization Research Institute, Arctic Cat performed various tests and wound up with positive results. Compared to a similarly-sized gasoline engine, the new diesel powerplant burns 30 percent less fuel. Moreover, it can run effectively on six different types of diesel fuel, including biodiesel. The latter makes the engine of the 700 Diesel cleaner while generating less carbon dioxide (CO2) and other noxious emissions.

The new 686cc twin-cylinder diesel engine is manufactured by Lombardini, an Italian company with an 80-year tradition of building some of the best small and midsize engines in the world. It's a liquid-cooled unit with two valves per cylinder and a single overhead camshaft.

Excellent frame
As the name suggests, the 700 Diesel is based on the versatile TRV frame, which was designed for tandem riding and heavy-duty chores. Thanks to an extended wheelbase and a redesigned rear seat area, the TRV frame is now among the most ergonomic and most versatile on the market. The rear end offers three possible configurations. You can take away the passenger seat and the assembly pins and then add the Speedrack or a heavy-duty cargo box. The latter features a tailgate, which makes it easier to load sand, soil or gravel. In addition, it's light enough to be easily installed by a single individual. The manufacturer also offers a wide selection of fastening devices for work or camping.

While the frame of Arctic Cat's utility models is several years old, it remains one of the best in the business. Despite the excessive weight (much higher than the average), it delivers a surprising performance. Arctic Cat is a master at calibrating a suspension and its ATVs offer one of the best balance of ride and handling over bumps and in corners.

The new 2008 Arctic Cat 700 Diesel TRV will no doubt be popular among military people who, for the most part, already use diesel in their regular vehicle. However, this particular model was primarily designed for farmers, who figure among Arctic Cat's main customers. The 700 Diesel TRV will certainly be a serious contender for the title of Best New ATV of 2008.
