2008 Suzuki KingQuad 450 Review

9-15-2008

by Daniel Lafrance , Moto123.com

The independent double A-arm front suspension with 7.1 inches of wheel travel teams up with a fully-independent, I-beam rear suspension with 8.1 inches of travel. Oddly, the setup felt very soft up front and ultra-firm in the back during my trail test. Despite the 5-way preload adjustable shock absorbers, the rear suspension felt rigid even in the softest setting. As for ground clearance, the KingQuad 450 offers a respectable 10.2 inches.

The steering proved to be soft and little responsive, especially for beginners. After a while, though, you get used to it. Handling is very sporty and the vehicle feels extremely light in corners; then again, you get used to it. Maneuverability is equally superb, even more so when you use your body as a counterweight in corners. It's safe to say you can do virtually anything you want with this ATV.

The 2008 Suzuki KingQuad 450 FWD is kind of a cross between sport and utility.

The braking system boasts an impressive pedigree, especially in the back with the sealed, multi-plate system. In effect, this clutch-type design provides high durability and reduced unsprung weight. Up front are 200-mm disc brakes with single-piston calipers. Interestingly, the advanced engine brake technology minimizes free-wheeling to reduce downhill speed. Yet, despite all this, I found the braking system to lack some efficiency, which is shocking given the lightness of the KingQuad.

Lastly, visibility is good even though there's only one rearview mirror. The latter is solidly attached, so it's not affected by vibrations.

Wrap-up
The 2008 Suzuki KingQuad 450 FWD is kind of a cross between sport and utility. The sporty dynamics significantly reduce overall comfort but allow uncompromised off-road adventures. This ATV is very agile and versatile -- just don't plan on taking it for a long ride.
