2007 Buell Firebolt XB12R Road Test

8-1-2007

by Mark Hacking , Auto123.com

The single 375 mm rotor - gripped by a single, six-piston caliper - is positioned near the wheel rim. This system not only saves on weight (versus dual rotors and calipers), but it's got significant stopping power. In fact, it takes time to get accustomed to the sheer power of the front brake - particularly when contrasted to the very mild rear brake.

Instrumentation is limited but easy to read.

In terms of other complaints about the bike, they are few and far between. The saddle could've been a bit narrower for my tastes, but otherwise the riding position was completely reasonable. The exhaust positioning on the right side was not optimal and it threw off a massive amount of heat, particularly on those hot summer days.

All in all, though, the Buell was a very enjoyable ride that served to highlight how far the manufacturer has come over the past few years. With an MSRP of $12,639, the 2007 Buell Firebolt XB12R certainly merits a close look from the sportbike rider in search of something unique.

Wicked styling
Broad torque band
Nimble chassis
Trick brakes and suspension

Seating position not ideal
Getting accustomed to the front brake

Ineffectual rear brake
Substantial exhaust heat
