AMA Superbike: Ben Spies at ease in MotoGP

7-4-2008

by Luc Fradette

Ben Spies walked away from this week's MotoGP tire test session at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway feeling very positive about the opportunity to gain valuable seat time on the Rizla Suzuki GSV-R after putting in 205 incident-free laps in two days.

"That was a good two days of testing," Spies said. "Since we were focused on tires, we didn't make a lot of changes to the motorcycle. We found a good baseline and went out and turned laps. That's probably the most laps I've ever done in a two-day test session.

This was the first true test for Indy's new road course and Spies was happy for the way the track improved, providing more traction as the test advanced.

Spies now prepares for turning in double duty at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on July 18-20. He will ride in both the AMA Superbike Championship event and the Red Bull U.S.Grand Prix.
