WARNERT CROSSES OVER INTO THE POWERSPORTS ATV TOUR

source: wpsaracing.com

PowerSports Snowmobile Tour stalwart Warnert Racing Team joined the PowerSports ATV Tour this weekend, running BRP/Can-Am's factory effort in QuadTerrain Challenge. Warnert runs the factory Ski-Doo team during the winter in the PowerSports Snowmobile Tour, and marks the first Snocross team to make the crossover to ATV competition.

"We just pulled the pin on this thing five days ago, so it's been a bit of a scramble to get prepared for the weekend," said team principal Mark Warnert. "We're really excited about running the PowerSports ATV Tour, and we're proud to be the first team to cross over into the ATV side."

Warnert Snocross regular Steve Martin was also onsite in a bit of a different role--as a mechanic. Martin, who rides the No. 18 Dodge/Ski-Doo in Snocross competition, is the 2004-2005 PowerSports Snowmobile Tour Pro Open Champion.

"I decided I needed a summer job," joked Martin. "I'm hoping to get on one of these ATVs this season. It looks like a lot of fun."

Warnert is fielding four quads on the Tour for riders Scott Kilby, Brock Parker, Clifton Beasley and Michael Swift.

TRAVEL PLANS...Sunday's QuadTerrain Challenge Pro Stock winner William Yokley (No. 23 Suzuki) is trying to fund a travel cavalcade for the PowerSports ATV Championship Tour's next event, June 24-25 at Blue Rok Raceway in Perry, Fla. Due to prior racing commitments, Yokley is going to be in Maryland the Saturday of that race weekend, but he is hoping to arrive early the next day to compete in the Tour event. Yokley currently has three podiums (a third, a second and win) in just three finals.

SHORTENED...Sunday's SuperQuad Pro 450 race was shortened to 10 laps from its planned 12 laps.
