First day of activities today at the Sepang circuit in preparation for the MotoGP Malaysian Grand Prix and Tech 3 Yamaha's Colin Edwards set the fastest time of the day followed by current champion Valentino Rossi.

Fiat Yamaha's Valentino Rossi spent most of the morning's session at the top with only his teammate, Jorge Lorenzo, being able to come close to his fastest time. Ducati's ace Casey Stoner was not far behind Lorenzo, only 0.016 of a second.

Once again departing Repsol Honda's Nicky Hayden was much faster than his teammate Dani Pedrosa. The American was fifth while the Spaniard could only manage a 17th place.

In the afternoon, Rossi, Stoner and Edwards were continuously exchanging the top spot until; finally, Colin Edwards was able to set the fastest time of the day on his Yamaha. Rossi finished second and Stoner a close third.
