09 Enduro Season Opener - Cold, mud and crashes

5-12-2009

by Guy Giroux

It took us 1:06min which is an eternity, but with fresh gloves I was able to catch him back on the same lap, passed him and now it was time to gap him... Got stuck, he passed... Attacked again, passed him back, a lapper crashed in front of me, he passed ...  Time was running short and I passed him back entering the last lap, but my gloves were so slippery I decided to stop for fresh one knowing I would go a lot faster by being able to hold on to the bars....  That put him back in the lead, and now it was now or never, do or die last lap move.

I was feeling good and put the hammer down in the big rock section, went wide in the deepest ruts and pinned the Beamer, something under water got my back wheel and lost time instead of being in the lead!!!   My next try came into another mudhole, where again I attacked wide and again hit something the size of microwave under water this time with the front wheel (Good thing the gas tank is under me a regular tank would have seriously hurt my manhood....) I regrouped and went for him again, with a last corner move in my head, I was ready to strike, when 2 corners from the end a stupid roots caught my rear wheel and stopped me....All this work for a second place..... Whatever it was a cool race Brian rode really good, better than me cause he didn't crash, his gloves were still fresh!!!! 3rd place was 6 min behind.

It was a good test for the Beamer, as the trail was 1st gear most of the time, it was also a good test for fitness.

I now have 3 weeks for the next race, which is a fast one were my bike will feel at home! I will have 3 more weeks of testing, and training... Hopefully by then I will grow a little longer legs, to help me in the mud....

Sorry I have no action pictures, everyone was afraid of getting their camera wet...

Have a good week
