2008 Kawasaki ZX-10R Preview

High-performance engine and brakes
Engineers certainly did not overlook the braking system. The ZX-10R is equipped with 310-mm, petal-shaped, semi-floating dual aluminum discs mated to new Tokico radial-mount callipers. Slowing the rear is a 210-mm, petal-shaped disc gripped by a single-piston caliper.

The ZX-10R is powered by a 998-cc, liquid-cooled, 4-cylinder engine with a compression ratio of 13:1 -- one of the highest in the entire industry. This 16-valve, DOHC powerplant is fed by an electronic fuel injection system with four 43-mm throttle bodies. Throttle response was improved by installing secondary fuel injectors, using oval throttle bodies and reshaping the intake ports. These changes give the new engine a performance potential that's very similar to Kawasaki's factory superbike racing machines.

Striking look
The ZX-10R sports an all-new design that one could call pure yet modern at the same time. The lines are sharper than its predecessor's, much like its performance. The exhaust line is more orthodox, yet it boasts a strikingly new European look. Likewise, the new larger and more modern swingarm says a lot about the work that's been done to improve stability and handling in corners. Unlike what we usually see on high-caliber superbikes, the new fairing leaves a good part of the bike's anatomy naked and unprotected, giving it an even racier styling.

The new sports flagship from Kawasaki does not make compromises anymore. You'll find it on the starting line, ready to wage war against the category's best. Count on it: this bike has all the ingredients to take home the checkered flag.
