Sunday: Two wins for Szoke

Honda rider Jordan Szoke won the opening round of the Pro Sport Bike and Superbike national championship this afternoon at Mirabel, QC’s ICAR Circuit.
Four-time defending Pro Sport Bike champion Szoke grabbed an early lead in the 14 lap final on his Honda CBR600RR and held the lead to the finish to win the first race of the 2010 season.
Fellow Honda rider Jodi Christie, who has been just behind Szoke throughout the weekend’s practice sessions, finished second today – claiming his first national podium. Christie, riding his Honda CBR600RR led the field through turn one, before being overtaken by Szoke later on the first lap. Christie rode a solid race, nipping at Szoke’s heels throughout. Today’s race ended early after two riders crashed on lap 9 bringing out the red flag and a race stoppage.
The final podium position went Jean-Francois Cyr on a Suzuki GSX-R600, competing in his first national event after a 5-year hiatus.
In Superbike, Szoke, aboard his Honda CBR1000RR, led all 18 laps around the 2.8-km circuit on his way to his 30th career Canadian Superbike victory.
Jodi Christie finished second on his CBR600RR. Christie, got a great start, as with the Sport Bike race, and again settled for second place aboard his 600 – but it wasn’t without a fight, as the two Hondas crossed the finish line .668-seconds apart.
Third spot on the Superbike podium went to Kevin Lacombe, riding his GSX-R1000. Lacombe passed Francis Martin for third place just past the halfway point in the race and immediately started to gap the BMW rider, but rode the remaining laps alone, not being able to catch the two leaders.

Saturday afternoon: Two Pole positions for Jordan Szoke
Things just got better and better for the Honda rider, with domination pole times in both Pro Sport Bike and Superbike. Szoke was full of confidence after his Superbike run. This is a self funded team, and I went out and hired the right team and bought the good parts, to accelerate the development of the bikes. And it seems to be working out better than I anticipated.”
In Superbike, Szoke’s 1:24.910 put him 0.560 sec ahead of a surprising Andrew Nelson aboard his BMW S 1000 RR, and 0.632 sec ahead of BMW Canada rider Francis Martin.
In Pro port Bike, Jordan qualified almost a full second ahead of fellow Honda rider Jodi Cristie, with returning veteran Jean-Francois Cyr third on his Suzuki.
We caught up on video with quick quailifiers Jodie Christie, Francis Martin, Andrew Nelson and Jordan Szoke right after their qualifyng laps.
