Motorcycle buyer's guide: Street bikes (900 cc and up)

7-4-2012

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

Designed to be close to superbike-like performance, in terms of speed and road handling, the 900-cc (and up) street bike also strives for more comfort and versatility for everyday riding. Better yet, insurance rates and registration costs are also less expensive.

Some of these bikes leave the factory complete with windshield, fairing or mini wind-break, whereas others (the so-called naked bikes) come without fairings, thereby exposing the motorcyclist more to the wind. Keep in mind that the impressive power of these machines asks for a certain amount of experience to ride them well: it’s very difficult, maybe even impossible, to maximize their true potential on a public highway.

Aprilia Tuono V4 R APRC
This magnificent streetfighter from Italian manufacturer Aprilia retains the powerful V4 of the RSV4, with less ponies maybe, but more torque, all while providing ergonomics and versatility sure to please a wider audience.

The bike’s frame, slightly modified at the fork angle and plate level, will offer better road stability than her RSV4 sister. Furthermore, this assertive Italian’s ATC system (Aprilia Traction Control) gets the most performance from the engine by limiting front wheel surges and back wheel sliding.
