All-New 2010 Honda VFR1200 just over the horizon?

8-6-2009

by Marc Cantin , moto123.com

Looks like an all-new 2010 VFR1200 will be announced sometime this year to replace the VFR800, and perhaps fill in a gap for a very sporting big-inch touring bike, shall we say a sportier version of another Honda favourite, the ST1300. Both older models are ready for an upgrade to something more powerful, a little more modern in looks and equipment, and, best of all, lighter.

The new machine, seen here close to final production design, appears to be more compact and sporting, and thus closer to the VFR800 than the ST1300. Furthermore, the narrow fairing does not appear to have enough space for storage spaces at the front like on the ST1300.

The new transversal V-4 (Like in the current VFR800) will certainly exceed all known emission standards, and is reputed to deliver close to 200hp with all four cylinders in use. The engine is said to switch to two cylinders for lower emissions and better mileage.

The pictures that have escaped show a configuration closer to the sporty VFR than to the more roomy (And heavier) ST, with a nice wide space in the magic triangle to accommodate all shapes and sizes of rider. Check out the largish catalytic converter cum exhaust mounted low, another sporting touch.

A 200 hp tourer – This I gotta ride!
