Well it's been a long time getting back....

8-1-2009

by Guy Giroux

So I parked my rig at the BMW fest, and I managed to spend an easy weekend, doing almost nothing except smile... no washing bikes, no wrenching, holidays!

I did manage to sneak three fun rides in, one with a F800GS, one with a R1200GS, and YES, you’r not dreaming - with an M3. Can you believe that BMW have enough confidence in me to let me drive that thing! But I was actually nice with the car, I must be getting old, even though Norm (Wells, BMW Motorrad Canada Honcho) did said that I was over revving it a bit....

To sum up my western trip , it was just awesome, everything went great, met a lot of new friends, saw really nice scenery, and just had a blast doing my tour-guide thing with Flexi. I even manage to get her to ride a mountain bike in Whistler.

This past weekend was the La Tuque FMSQ race which is round 6 of the championship, I was more than ready to give the kids a beating, after a few slaps in the face out West....

Getting a handle on this marketing thing at the BMW Fest – More hard work!

I got a slow start, in 10th approx, and in less than 3 corners on the MX track my G450X dual sport was leading... I pulled a giant wheelie in front of the crowd as soon as I got in the lead. I was riding 30sec a lap faster than everyone for the first 3 laps, and as I was ready to get my pace faster when my bike began to sputter. Since I was pretty close to the pits, I jumped down and started to run beside the bike to get it in the pits. We filled it up thinking I had run out of gas, I went back, but the problem was still there.

I had almost no power, so I pushed the bike up all the hills, until the track went close to my trailer. I stopped again, and my plan was to jump on the practice bike to finish the race, but the referee was quick to point out that the rule book said no..... So I took my bike apart, and after 13min of wrenching I found the problem and fixed it. I went back out a lap behind the leaders, and my bike wasn't at 100%. I had lost a lot of power, but my plan was to save as many points as possible. I went by the leaders flying, and managed to pull away, but I could only manage to get back to 13th.

Which is p…ing me off big time!

Yesterday I was out on my road bike pedaling my a.. off!!!  This morning I'm going out on my bicycle again and guess what - I will pedal my a.. off all week....

I have a weekend off then it's Vaudreuil, a nice sandy track...

Have a good week,
