Supermoto X Fest at Mecaglisse (video)

8-3-2009

by moto123.com

The third annual Supermoto X Fest took place August 1 and 2 at Mecaglisse, the multi purpose motorsports facility just North of Montreal. In addition to the Supermoto races, a round of the Canadian Motorcycle Trials Championship took place, as well as two Xtreme Duels pitting a supermoto against a rally-spec Mitsubishi Evo 8, and against a 125-cc shifter kart.

All hail Maximus Prime!
Maxime Sylvestre, from Berthierville, Quebec, made the event his own by taking top honors in three Supermoto classes: SMX Pro, SMX 250 and Prestige, the latter involving the top three riders in each class.

These wins by Sylvestre (KTM) helped him pad his lead in the Eastern North America Championship (ENAC) in front of his closest rival. Jesse Morgan (Yamaha), who finished right behind him in the key races.

Xtreme Duels – Supermoto vs Kart vs Rally car
Facing a Mitsubishi Evo 8 driven by Simon Losier, Sylvestre crossed the finish line first with a time of 1:49 – 13 seconds quicker than the less agile car on a mix of dirt and pavement, well… mud and wet pavement really!. In the second challenge race, the Supermoto King was left in a cloud of mud and mist by Daniel Nadeau and his 125-cc kart, on a wet paved track. The Kart finished the two laps in a time of 2:04, with the Supermoto 6 seconds behind.

Jordan Szoke, 2009 Canadian trials champion
Jordan Szoke, nine-time Canadian champion in trials and road racing, was on hand for a round of the Canadian Motorcycle Trials Championship. Riding his Gas Gas, he delivered a masterful performance and sealed his tenth national championship.

ATV and Supermoto races under the rain
While the sun shone bright on Saturday for the qualifying sessions, the various races on Sunday were held in the rain, good for the show but less so for the spectators.
