Rumours - suspicions - wishful thinking for 2010

6-24-2009

by Marc Cantin , moto123.com

Model year 2010 promises to be a fertile one, with several all new machines coming out of the rumour mill. Here are a few of the tastier morsels from just over the horizon, definitely not obtained or validated by the manufacturers.

Honda VFR1000
This replacement for the venerable VFR750-800 family is expected in two versions, Sport and Sport Touring, and might also replace the ST1300, with a planned announcement date later this year as a 2010 model.

With a 1000cc V4, the latest intelligent ABS, traction control, electronics, and likely less weight than the ST models, this new generation VFR promises to continue both traditions, VFR and ST with the same sure values, looks and performance.

BMW K 1"X"00 LT
This would be the long-awaited replacement for the older generation K1200LT, the last user of the original horizontal four cylinder engine. Rumours talk about a flat six configuration similar to the Honda Gold Wing flagship, as well as all the latest electronic gadgets possible, to fight off the competition from Honda and Harley-Davidson in this lucrative market.

It seems that displacement would likely be set at 1800cc, although this information has not been confirmed in any way.

Yamaha Hybrid Scooter
No pictures or credible images available yet, but Yamaha is working on a hybrid gas-electric scooter aimed at the 150cc market and performance level. All electric scooters are with us now, with the Vectrix in limited production, but expect a cost competitive machine such as this one to be available only in 2011.
