Rumour Mill - Yamaha's 2010 Hybrid Motorcycle?

7-20-2009

by Marc Cantin , moto123.com

Industry noises in Europe indicate that Yamaha is preparing to launch a production hybrid bike as a 2010 model, based on the Gen-Ryu concept bike presented in 2005.

The futuristic concept bike featured an R6-derived 600cc engine, as well as single-sided, a hub-centre-steered front suspension, a vehicle proximity warning system, cornering lights and other such options that are still not in production anywhere today. The new model will likely use a single cylinder gas engine to charge the batteries and help out the electric motor when required.

Most of the cycle parts, such as the chassis, suspension and brakes will lean towards the well developed and commonly available components we know and love. The one exception to this statement appears to be the body and general appearance, which would lean more towards the up-to-now unique Honda DN-01. Could it be that Yamaha wants to appeal to non-bikers, much like the Honda, and with similarly high pricing to boot?

Stay tuned - Film at 11… ooops - in a month or two!
