Permanent ORV trails by 2012?

If the Quebec Minister for Transport, M. Norman MacMillan, is to be believed, the development of permanent quad and snowmobile trails could become a reality as of 2012.

The network, which would provide off-road vehicle enthusiasts (ORV) with a permanent playground, would first and foremost be established based on existing inter-regional and public land trails.

The Minister made the announcement at the end of a first meeting with the presidents and coordinators of the regional tables, as well as representatives of various ORV associations.

Due to the ever-increasing difficulty of maintaining rights of passage, the loss of trails resulting from commercial and residential development and the privatization of numerous pieces of land, the development of permanent trails has become essential.

The announcement was welcomed by Mario Côté, president of the Fédération des clubs de motoneigistes du Québec, who sees in this overture a way of ensuring the survival of an industry that has a significant economic impact on most regions of Quebec.
