MotoGP: FIM to launch investigation into Jerez incidents

4-5-2011

by moto123.com

The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) will launch an investigation into the marshals’ behaviour, following the accident involving Casey Stoner and Valentino Rossi at the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez.

As Rossi was trying to overtake Stoner for second place, the Italian fell and crashed with the Repsol Honda rider leaving him helpless on the side of the track, while the marshals helped Rossi to get back on his bike and continue the race.

Rossi managed to finish fifth but Stoner had to retire, still convinced he could have rejoined the event had he had received the same treatment as did Rossi.

The FIM announced that it will be reviewing the incident; although it made it clear the results of the race will not be altered. The hearing will be organized on April 28th in Estoril, Portugal.
