Casey Stoner won his third consecutive race this Sunday, at the MotoGP Indianapolis Grand Prix, by edging his team-mate Dani Pedrosa; increasing his stranglehold on the world championship lead.
At the start, pole sitter Stoner was surprised by Pedrosa and quickly fell behind Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo, after running wide at Turn 2 on the opening lap.
But the Australian was soon to fight back and, two laps later he overtook Lorenzo to get back the second place before doing the same on Pedrosa, before the one third distance mark and pulled away to a comfortable 4.828-second win.
Local favourite Ben Spies did not impressed the home crowd with his terrible start; quickly falling to the ninth spot. Like Stoner, he went back on the attack and quickly passed his team-mate Colin Edwards and Alvaro Bautista (Suzuki) and then took advantage of Nicky Hayden running wide at Turn 1 to move up to sixth.
Next to be passed on his list were Andrea Dovizioso (Honda) and Marco Simoncelli (Gresini Honda) which he did to move up to fourth.
Then, on lap 17 he was able to edge his team-mate Lorenzo to secure the final podium spot.
In finishing fourth, Lorenzo saw his deficit to Stoner increase from 28 points to 44.
