Riding a mid-range scooter to handle the daily commute proves to be an interesting answer to skyrocketing gas prices. That's what I've been doing, day and night, for the past seven years -- even with a suit and tie! In 2008, larger scooters are making a stronger presence than ever. Suburbanites will prefer 250-cc machines, which are lighter than motorcycles and also very nimble. They can ride on the highway and they command more respect from other road users. What's more, they're easier to park and offer better protection against the elements. | Piaggio MP3 |
Meanwhile, touring scooters allow you to criss-cross the whole province and appreciate the regional landscape. 400-cc models deliver solid performance, while 500-cc scooters offer more power (albeit at a heavier weight), higher-quality fit and finish as well as premium accessories like adjustable visors. They're a nice alternative to big motorcycles. Kymco is launching the Xciting 500 and Piaggio is adding the Scarabeo 500, but I'm even more anxious to see the 400- and 500-cc Piaggio MP3s: these 3-wheel machines are revolutionizing the sport.
