Joe Gibbs Racing and Toyota Build Maximum-Bling Motocross Concept Bike

11-3-2009

by Marc Cantin , moto123.com

The Joe Gibbs Racing Motocross/Toyota (JGRMX/Toyota) Concept Bike is a one-of-a-kind project built for the 2009 Speciality Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show. The group logged more than 100 hours on the project, to select and install accessories from 17 contributors and create a truly unique machine.

The project used a 2009 Yamaha YZ450F as the base, to which were grafted a specially lightened and polished frame, carbon fiber body panels, and a custom fuel tank. Titanium and other exotic metals were used to further reduce weight and provide an exotic appearance.

The YZ450F engine features a reversed location valve train from Xceldyne, a fan-driven forced air intake system with fuel injection, and a Carillo rod/piston/rings set was installed to complement the top end work. A special air-driven starting system with an air tank integrated into the frame was another departure from tradition.

The highest quality rear shock, levers, cables, shift and rear brake lever, brake rotors, wheels and Fiber Spoke Technology, and Renthal sprockets, bars, and grips completed the chassis modifications.

The final touch to the project was an on-board data acquisition system from Pi Research, set up to provide real-time information on suspension travel, engine temperature, and vehicle speed.

The team has not announced plans to produce or race the special machine.
