Jacques Villeneuve Sr. (uncle of former F1 champion Jacques Villeneuve) underwent surgery on Sunday after suffering a major snowmobile crash that could have had tragic consequences. He's now in stable condition at the intensive care unit.
During the Valcourt Grand Prix, Villeneuve violently hit his rival Michael Soucy and was projected over a distance of more than 50 metres, leaving him with multiple broken ribs and a broken leg, as well as a perforated lung. He was immediately rushed by helicopter to a Sherbrooke hospital.
Despite the severity of the crash, Villeneuve is not expected to carry any after-effects, although it could possibly end his career.
Dr. Yannick Poulin told the Canadian Press that ''the next move is up to him, but considering his history and reputation, I feel like he'll do everything he can to return to racing.''
