Honda's V4-powered superbike

3-17-2013

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

Honda's superbike lineup desperately needs a new star. None of the current models manage to recreate the thrills and chills of past icons such as the RC 30, NR 750, or the original Fireblade.

Sources tell us that the Japanese manufacturer is doing something about it, mind you. There are reports about a top-calibre sport bike that would out-muscle the competition with a brand new V4 engine. Yes, you read that right! Honda is said to be working on a street-legal version of the MotoGP-spec V4 powerplant.

Similar to Ducati with the Desmosedici, or Aprilia with the RSV4, the Reds no doubt want to write a new chapter with a superbike that comes straight from world-class racing. Having gained serious expertise in MotoGP, Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) is perfectly able to come up with a compact, powerful, and reliable V4 -- all backed by a razor-sharp frame and the latest electronic aids.

Will we be treated to a new RC 60 in 2014? Keep your fingers crossed...
