Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada Buell racing

5-22-2009

by Harley-Davidson

Press release

TORONTO, ONTARIO
Last year in the opening round of the Parts Canada Superbike series in Calabogie, Ontario, at the new Calabogie Motorsport track, Steve Crevier created history by giving the new Buell® 1125RTM motorcycle its first Superbike podium placing in the world. In typical Crevier style, he did it with a dramatic pass on the last lap, and – to add a heroic notation here – he did it on DOT tires.

Just two weeks later, Steve teamed up with Shawn Higbee at Road America on the Richie Morris Racing Buell® 1125RTM motorcycle to honour the model with its first major victory in the SunTrust Moto GT series.

For the May 22 through 24 Parts Canada Superbike weekend, and the debut of the Deeley Harley-Davidson® Canada Racing Buell® team in Calabogie, Ontario, Deeley Harley-Davidson® Canada will proudly be sporting the largest team in the paddock, fielding six Buell® 1125RTM bikes. Three machines will be entered in the Yoshimura Sport Bike class and three more in the feature Parts Canada Superbike class. In the Sport Bike class, the Buell® 1125RTM bike is restricted to 140 horsepower and must weigh in at 400 pounds, but the Buell® 1125RTM Superbike will be fine-tuned for the class maximum of 185 horsepower and will be be trimmed to 360 pounds. Truly a weapon for the wars ahead!

The triumvirate of riders consists of veterans of racing and long-time Deeley Harley-Davidson® Canada associates. Headlined by the ever-colourful Steve Crevier, the group is solidly supported by former Canadian Thunder champ Darren James and the multi-time American Thunder champion Dave Estok.

Steve Crevier, who hails from Maple Ridge, British Columbia, anticipates the upcoming races with the following comments: “It’s going to be a new track with the longer section this year, so that should be interesting. The bike is really coming along and the test days are really helping us. We didn’t go to Jennings, so getting some saddle time is important and we are making progress with the new Buell 1125R.”

Darren James adds, “Dave and I are going to start the year in Sport Bike and the team’s Superbike effort will be on Steve. We know going in that it’s going to be a challenge, but you know that Deeley has never backed away from a challenge. We don’t do it on the race track, or the sales floor. And as far as Calabogie goes, I love the place. It’s a track that brings out the best in a Buell… bring it on.”

With some recent track time in the U.S., Dave Estok shows enthusiasm for the Canadian season start-up. “The main thing for me right now is to get comfortable on the bike. I’m really ready to start racing again.”

We anticipate a thrilling start to the racing season in Calabogie, beginning on May 22, and look forward to seeing you there to experience every adrenaline-packed split-second with us!
