BMW goes crazy: New R1200R Classic + DOHC Boxer engine for both R1200R models + R1200GS Triple Black SE + revised G650GS

11-1-2010

by Marc Cantin , moto123.com

Let’s take this news one piece at a time.

New R1200R Classic model
Based on the R1200R that we know and love, the 2011 R1200R Classic features spoked wheels, a silver paint job for the engine and chassis components, and a center stripe over a black paint job.

Both R1200R models get the DOHC ex-HP2 engine upgrade
After the market leading GS got the DOHC engine in 2010, it was only a matter of time before the other R models received the same upgrade. At 110hp, the new engine only adds 1hp. The great news is that the 3lb-ft of torque (Up to 88lb-ft) comes with a much fatter curve all through the usable rev band.

At the time, this improvement alone transformed the R1200GS, turning the superb road-going machine into a real dirt-road burner, capable of great sliding corner exits at over 100kph.

R1200GS Triple Black SE
Based on the standard 2011 R1200GS, the limited-edition Triple Black Special Edition model adds sapphire black metallic paint to the plastic and certain mechanical parts, and the Premium Parts package that includes Enduro Electronic Suspension Adjustment, heated grips, hand guards, antilock brakes, and pannier mounting brackets.

Upgraded G650GS for 2011
This deceptively effective model introduced in 2010 gets a new look and cast wheels for 2011. The rear wheel goes up to 3.5in width for a wider rear tire (140/80-17 rather than 130/80-17 last year), and a new front end treatment more in line with the BMW family look.

We are all awaiting news from BMW Motorrad Canada regarding availability and price, due out at the December dealer Meeting.
