by moto123.com

Ryan Villopoto (Kawasaki) won his sixth AMA Supercross race at Rice Eccles Stadium, in front of 39,329 fans and took a serious option on the 2011 title.

James Stewart (Yamaha) took the holeshot for the Supercross 450 class main event, followed closely by Chad Reed (Honda) while Villopoto, who started fourth, moved into third place on lap 2.

Villopoto then made his way around Reed on lap 8 to secure second place. On the same lap, Stewart crashed and moments after remounting, he crashed again and lost several positions, handing the lead over to Villopoto.

Reed moved back into second and series champion Ryan Dungey (Suzuki) moved into third, where they would finish. Stewart finished 10th.

With his victory in Salt Lake City, Villopoto has now a nine-point lead over Reed heading into the finals next weekend at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium
